The Westport Fishermen’s Association is working with the Buzzards Bay Coalition, the Marine Biological Laboratory Ecosystems Center (MBL) and the Buzzards Bay National Estuary Program to examine rapid salt marsh loss in the Westport Rivers, which flow into Buzzards Bay. We are seeking a college student for 8 to 10 weeks this summer to support this study. With guidance from the project partners, the Salt Marsh Intern will be responsible for performing the core elements of a three-part project: develop a historical timeline of salt mash loss and upland land used changes based on aerial imagery, execute a field sampling plan, and perform laboratory analysis of the samples collected.
