Despite cloudy weather, we had a good crowd of enthusiastic runners and walkers at the 12th Annual “Run for the Water” on May 7th. Chris Jordan from Taunton was the Men’s 8K winner with a time of 28:16 and Annmarie Tuxbury from New Hartford CT was the first female, clocking in at 29:27. Top local runners were Bethany Daniels from Dartmouth in 4th place and Westport’s Richard Cole came in 4th in the men’s division. In the 5K event, Trish Gardner and Ian Steen, both of Dartmouth, led the field. Complete race results are here.
Proceeds from this year’s event will help fund the WFA’s scholarship program as well as the Westport River salt marsh study we are undertaking with the Woods Hole Marine Biological Institute and Buzzards Bay Coalition among other partners.
After the race, participants feasted on delicious pulled pork sandwiches and fixings courtesy of The Back Eddy. The WFA also thanks the rest of our generous sponsors who donated goods, prize money and raffle items that helped make this event a success: D/2 Biological Solutions, J.L. Marshall & Sons, BayCoast Bank, Westport Rivers Winery, Toyota of Dartmouth, Lapointe Insurance, Westport Chiropractic, Osprey Sea Kayak Adventures, Bradshaw insurance, Country Woolens, The Bayside Restaurant, Stop & Shop, Crystal Spring Water, Bittersweet Farms Restaurant, Partners Village Store, Ten Cousins Pizza, New York Bagel, and Graphix Plus.
Community involvement and support is key to our work, so we give a special shout out to all our volunteers and to ‘Team Lapointe’, who came out in force to complete the 5K event. Thanks everyone!
