The Westport Fishermen’s Association is pleased to announce three local recipients of the WFA Merit scholarship for 2018. Hana Tabit, Delaney Wilkinson and Maryjane Gelinas have each been chosen to receive a $650.00 award for academic and civic excellence.
Hana Tabit, daughter of Lucy and Richard Tabit of Westport, is graduating from Bishop Stang High School and will be studying chemistry at Worcester Polytechnic University. The scholarship committee noted her outstanding academics and extracurricular activities, as well as her stated commitment to “environmental protection for both land and marine wildlife alike.”
Delaney Wilkinson is a 2018 graduate of Westport High School who plans to study nursing at the University of Pennsylvania. She was described by the scholarship committee as impressive and well-rounded, with a love for our local waterways.
Maryjane Gelinas of Westport, attended Bishop Stang High school and will begin studying business at Assumption College this fall. She has been a regular volunteer at Westport Fishermen’s Association events and in her essay, Maryjane described how she hoped to “spread the importance of issues related to improving water quality, preventing negative impacts on stream flow and preserving these habitats.”
The Board of Directors would like to extend their congratulations and wish Hana, Delaney and Maryjane much success in the future. The WFA would also like to recognize and thank all of our generous members, sponsors and community friends who donate or contribute Lees receipts to support our scholarship fund throughout the year.
